Community Food Forest Planting & Shared Lunch

Saturday, 14th May 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Things are happening at the food forest: the shelter is built, the grass removed, soil delivered.

Heather has kindly offered to bring a hot minestroni soup for lunch this Saturday
and a few tree planters have raised their hands.

All we need now is (preferably) a couple more volunteers.

Come for a day, an hour or just for lunch

each Volunteer will get a Signed Map of all the Trees
?& we will speak about food forests & gardening over lunch.
Hot drinks & soup supplied for all voluteers.

Lunch will be in the new picnic shelter the council just built

14th/ 15th & 21st/ 22nd of May 2016

9am – 4pm
shared lunch from 12-1pm?

Each tree site will be deeply cultivated and a soak installed.
Stage 1 trees are growing for 3.5 years now, so you can see what it will look like in the future.

BRING:? – hat, gloves, firm shoes, (raincoat?)
– lunch to share or for yourself – water is available onsite
– shovel, wheelbarrow, pick, mattock if you want.

Description
Winton Road Food Forest is a community food garden near Gardiners Creek bike trail in Ashburton started in 2012.

The food forest is managed by a group of dedicated residents and casual volunteers for the benefit of the local community.

This is a sustainability initiative which helps to increase local food security, reduce food miles, demonstrate sustainable urban agriculture and develop community connectedness.

This contributes to lowering carbon in the air.

Come along to our working bees and enjoy sociable gardening and learn new skills.
